Q. There is a blank area in the centre of the radio. Shouldn't something be displayed there?
A. Yes, there should be a movie of the track's waveform playing in there, along with sound. All the movies on semisolidradio.com are in Shockwave/Flash (.swf) format, which is the most universally acceptable format across operating systems and browsers. A brand new browser installation may not have a plug-in installed to handle Flash movies. In that event, you can get the latest one from here.

If that doesn't do it for you, pop an e-mail to:

with a description of the problems you are experiencing and we'll get you sorted.

Q. Why can't I copy and paste the e-mail addresses on this site into my e-mail client?
A. Experience has shown that expressing our e-mail addresses as JPEG images rather than plain text cuts down drastically on the amount of spam we receive as a result of robots crawling the web for these addresses. You'll just have to write down the e-mail address the first time you use it, and save it to your address book.

Q. Why won't the link you sent me to activate my account work?
A. When you joined semisolidradio.com, we sent you an e-mail with a link in it that you need to visit in order to activate your account. Upon successful activation, you are automatically logged in and ready to go. But it's not always so straightforward. There are a lot of e-mail clients out there, and even though our e-mail adhered to the standards for an HTML e-mail, it's possible that your particular client made a right mess out of it. Or, more likely it may have changed it into plain text.

In the event that clicking on the link in the activation e-mail doesn't work, you may need to copy the relevant link out of the e-mail and paste it into your browser's address bar. That link needs to be in the following format:

http://semisolidradio.com/activate.php?email=example@somewhere.com&challenge=0123456789abcdef0123456789

That all has to be on a single line and, of course, your own e-mail address and corresponding 26-digit security challenge must be in there in order for it to work correctly. If you've tried everything and are still having no joy, send an e-mail to:

including a copy of the activation e-mail we sent you and we'll get you up and running.

Q. There is a blank area under the radio on the download page. What gives?
A. That is the area where an MP3 should be playing. Most browsers use QuickTime by default to play MP3s, with the exception of Internet Explorer. We had to force it to use Windows Media Player as it would not stream the tracks correctly with the QuickTime player. For all browsers besides Internet Explorer, in the event that you have a brand new browser installation, you may need to download the QuickTime player in order to get the browser plug-in. The latest QuickTime player can be obtained here.

As for Internet Explorer users, the site was tested with Windows Media Player 10. Version 11 should work as well.

Q & A for semisolidradio.com suppliers
Q. How do I get my tracks and publicity photos posted on semisolidradio.com?

Q. How do I get my tracks and publicity photos posted on semisolidradio.com?
A. First, you need to join semisolidradio.com to establish an account with us. It is important that the person who joins semisolidradio.com for the purpose of promoting a particular artist's material has the express consent of the artist to represent them. Usually it would be the PR for the artist, but there's nothing precluding the artist themselves or a band member with a little internet savvy taking on this role. Then, send an e-mail to:

In this e-mail, you need to convince us that either you or the artist(s) you represent hold the copyrights for the material you wish to post on the site. The tracks that we publish on semisolidradio.com must not have been already published by a record company. You must hold the exclusive rights to use the tracks. The best way to convince us that your stuff is worthwhile is to send us *a single MP3 ripped at 128kbit/sec* in your initial e-mail. If our panel thinks it's a good effort in its genre, we'll be back to you with further details.
